SEARCH AUTHORIZED IN SALAMANCA FOR A NEW LITHIUM AND STRATEGIC MINERALS SEAM

The project to search for strategic minerals on the border between Salamanca and Cáceres reflects a growing interest in the exploration of mineral resources in Spain, especially for minerals such as lithium, tin and wolfram, which are essential for the energy transition and modern technology.

The permit granted by the Territorial Service of Industry, Commerce and Economy of Salamanca for the project called “Salvaleón” is a significant step in the exploration and possible exploitation of these resources. The location of the deposit, which extends over several municipalities in a border area between Salamanca and northern Extremadura, indicates the strategic importance of this area for the extraction of critical minerals. The region, already known for its wealth of natural resources, could become a key center for the production of lithium and other energy minerals in Spain.

Lithium, in particular, is an essential resource for the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries and for renewable energy storage, making its exploitation of great interest for the country’s economy and energy sustainability. Tin and wolfram are also valuable minerals, used in various industrial and technological applications.

This project could not only boost the local and regional economy, but also position Spain as a relevant player in the supply chain of strategic minerals at European and global level. However, as with any mineral extraction project, it will be crucial to manage the associated environmental and social impacts to ensure sustainable and responsible development.
